TOURIST RESIDENCES IN SKALOTI | SFAKIA
The architectural project by Insite Architects Lab involves the development of a modern complex of tourist residences located at the “Kioni” site, outside the settlement of Skaloti in the Municipality of Sfakia, on a prime coastal plot of 13.12 thousand square meters. The core design concept focuses on completely harmonizing the structures with the natural environment, taking advantage of the steep terrain slope in both plan and section to seamlessly integrate the building volumes into the landscape.
The complex is organized into distinct building units. To the west of the central building, four underground cave-style residences are positioned, featuring green roofs, wooden pergolas, and private swimming pools. To ensure optimal living conditions, the design incorporates vertical indoor skylight courtyards filled with planting, providing natural light, ventilation, and a improved microclimate. To the east, three autonomous single-story rectangular residences with basements and private outdoor areas unfold. Situated at the center of the site is the communal facilities building, housing the reception area and a dining space, opening up to a central outdoor area with the main communal pool right in front of it.
The construction relies on 50 cm thick natural stone walls, thermal-break aluminum joinery, and wooden accents, while the overall layout guarantees unobstructed, panoramic views of the Libyan Sea from every point of the complex.
