Architectural proposal
Set on a dramatic hillside in the area of Kissamos, this architectural proposal envisions a forward-thinking, sustainable hospitality retreat overlooking the bay of Falasarna. The design is driven by a deep respect for the terrain and the region’s raw natural beauty, crafting an experience defined by minimal luxury and maximal comfort.
The core architectural concept embraces landscape integration by embedding earth-sheltered, cave-style structures and single-story volumes with planted green roofs directly into the natural contours of the site. This cascading layout significantly minimizes the overall visual footprint while preserving sweeping, unobstructed vistas of the sea from every level.
To address the intense western orientation and horizontal afternoon sunlight, the project introduces a continuous, porous “visual filter” inspired by traditional stone masonry. This bioclimatic intervention buffers direct solar heat gain, generates natural ventilation, and selectively frames dramatic sunset vistas while defining private and semi-outdoor living thresholds.
The complex is organized into distinct residential clusters featuring a diverse mix of accommodation options—from intimate single and two-room suites to two- and three-bedroom luxury villas with private water elements. A comprehensive array of communal spaces completes the masterplan, including á la carte and thematic dining venues celebrating local gastronomy, a subterranean wellness spa with indoor pools, communal infinity pools, an outdoor yoga deck, a small amphitheater, an on-site chapel, and underground parking to keep the ground surface entirely pedestrianized. The resulting environment balances local materiality, tactile textures, and refined simplicity to offer an authentic immersion into Cretan serenity.
