FOUR HILLSIDE RESIDENCES IN PLATANOS

FOUR HILLSIDE RESIDENCES IN PLATANOS

Architectural proposal

Set within the rural landscape of Kalami, just outside Platanos in Kissamos, this architectural proposal introduces an exclusive retreat composed of four independent ground-floor residences framed by the Cretan Sea and sweeping sunset horizons. Driven by an acute sensitivity to place, the intervention integrates organically into the olive-clad terrain, allowing the topography to shape the built form rather than imposing upon it.

The residences descend the slope in a stepped formation, orienting every living space toward the sea while safeguarding total privacy and shelter from prevailing coastal winds. Clean architectural lines converse with gentle, vaulted roof contours and tiered dry-stone terraces, forging an authentic continuity between modern form and traditional Cretan craftsmanship.

Interior spaces open entirely to the elements through generous floor-to-ceiling thresholds, blurring the line between indoors and outdoors. Private stone decks, pergola-shaded lounges, and cantilevered infinity pools with glass-front edges project toward the horizon, visually merging with the sea below. Throughout the interiors, an austere palette of honed travertine, raw timber, and porous, earth-toned renders catches the amber glow of the afternoon sun, cultivating a calm, tactile atmosphere of quiet Mediterranean luxury.
